Simple, Clean Design
Why I redesigned this blog to focus on simplicity and readability instead of flashy features.
Simple, Clean Design
I recently redesigned this blog to be much cleaner and more focused on what matters: the writing and the content. The previous version was cluttered with cards, gradients, and all sorts of visual elements that distracted from the actual posts.
Less is More
Good design isn't about adding more features or visual elements. It's about removing everything that doesn't serve the core purpose. For a personal blog, that purpose is simple: helping people read and enjoy the content.
The new design focuses on:
- Typography - Clean, readable fonts with proper spacing
- White space - Plenty of breathing room around content
- Minimal colors - Just a few carefully chosen colors
- Simple navigation - Easy to find what you're looking for
Built for Content
This blog now handles both text posts like this one, and image-heavy posts or galleries. The focus is always on presenting the content in the clearest, most enjoyable way possible.
The underlying technology is still modern (SvelteKit, TypeScript, etc.) but the interface gets out of the way and lets the content shine.
Why It Matters
When you remove visual clutter, several things happen:
- Faster loading - Less CSS and fewer visual elements
- Better accessibility - Simpler layouts work better with screen readers
- Easier maintenance - Less code to break or update
- Timeless design - Won't look dated in a few years
The Result
What you're reading now. A clean, simple blog that focuses on the writing. Sometimes the best feature is the one you don't add.
